...bringing children BY THE BUS to Hutchinson's Historic Fox Theatre

"BY THE BUS" is the educational program of Hutchinson's Historic Fox Theatre. Its purpose is to bring children "by the bus" at no charge to them to experience live theatre in a beautiful venue. Our goal is for the children from the surrounding area to have this opportunity several times during their pre-school through high school years. Our aim is to ignite their interest and participation in the arts. This is accomplished through a series of "Informances" i.e. theatrical presentations designed to educate, engage and entertain.

"BY THE BUS" serves several thousand children each year. It is funded through grants, foundations and private donations. We encourage and work hard to offer our programs at no charge to either the students or the schools. BY THE BUS Informances are open to all children of all cultures in our region.

Here are a few of the events scheduled for next season:

October 10, 2008 10:00 AM THE GRIOTS
Storytellers that keep the ancient art form of storytelling alive. THE GRIOTS tells cultural stories with a moral and includes African musical instruments. Student participation is encouraged.

February 6, 2009, 10:00 AM TapHist’ry
American history through rhythm tap and jazz music. This program wonderfully weaves various styles of jazz music with the evolution of tap dancing throughout American history. Includes student participation.

May 1, 2009, 1:00 PM, Cinco de Mayo Informance
Traditional Mexican dancing and singing with information on the importance of the celebration of this special day.
